Samsung F700 Review

Postby shaunharris on 18 Jul 2008, 04:08

Samsung F700 Review:

At first sight, Samsung F700 raises the question: Is it an iPhone? No, it isn`t, but it is a 3G phone with a QWERTY keyboard instead. The price is way smaller than iPhone`s price amd if you decide to purchase it with Vodafone contract F700 is a real bargain.

Even if F700 looks a bit chunky due to its QWERTY sliding keyboard, the phone feels great in the palm of your hand and looks great also. Measuring 15.9 mm in thickness, it is one of the thinnest QWERTY mobile phone available. If the the touch-screen interface is somewhat slow in operation, the QWERTY keypad comes to improve this situation.
Image
SPECIFICATIONS:
F700 is a trustworthy mid range mobile starring a huge touch screen, HSDPA capabilities, built in Google maps and a decent 3 megapixels camera.

The HSDPA connection (3,6 Mb/s) for fast data transfers and the 3 megapixels auto-focus camera, complete with Google Maps and YouTube make Samsung F700 a capable multimedia phone. Considering the huge display the battery life is more than decent, for a normal use the battery needs charging every 3 days.

Samsung G400 Soul preview

Postby shaunharris on 18 Jul 2008, 04:15

Samsung G400 Soul preview:

Samsung has launched the clamshell version of the Samsung Soul called the G400. This handset was was first made known to the public last February, and was surmised to be among the phones Samsung will showcase during the Mobile World Congress. Samsung G400's selling point is its dual touch screen feature. By dual touch screen, it means the G400 has one 2.2-inch TFT LCD display, and one 2.2-inch external touch screen display. The external screen is used to access the phone's multimedia capabilities without the need to use the main internal display. Other features include a 5-megapixel camera, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA capability, and multi-media player with FM radio. Samsung G400 is equipped with three different graphic user interfaces or GUIs from which the users can choose. The clamshell phone will be available starting June 2008 to select European countries.

Image

Samsung and Soul know better than simply recasting a slider as a bar. Samsung G400 Soul is the one Soul family member that easily gets singled out. The clamshell phone pulls off near RAZR size and style (save for the thickness), and boasts the unique dual screen setup and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. Actually, this is the first 5 MP clamshell ever, though for some reason Samsung chose not to pitch that in their promos. Anyway, the G400 is one heavy piece of skill and style. And even if it's the odd one in terms of looks, it seems set to live up to that Soul pedigree.

Key features:

* 5 megapixel autofocus camera (face detection, wide dynamic range and image stabilization)
* Identical external and internal screens: 2.2" 256K-color TFT LCD of QVGA resolution
* Touch-sensitive external display with ,multimedia interface and haptics
* 3G with HSDPA (7.2Mbps) support, video call
* FM radio with RDS
* 120MB of shared memory and microSD slot
* Bluetooth (with A2DP) and USB v2.0
* User-friendly keypad
* Relatively fast user interface
* Fully customizable themes
* Dedicated settings for each of the displays
* The main display doesn't get key prints in closed position.

Samsung G810 Preview

Postby shaunharris on 18 Jul 2008, 11:58

Samsung G810 Preview:

The Samsung G810 is a Symbian smartphone with a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, 3G and HSDPA. Pitched directly against the Nokia N95, the SGH-G810 is an impressive looking device. Unfortunately, its announcement coincides with Nokia's news of the N95's successor.

One key feature is the camera - a 5 megapixel unit with autofocus and a Xenon Flash, the SGH-G810 also boast 3 times optical zoom, a very rare feature in a camera phone. There's no word of video capture resolution though - and for many people this is a key feature, although the G810 does allow video clips to be directly uploaded to YouTube.

Samsung have also been a little vague about the G810's GPS capabilities. It certainly has GPS, but quite what navigation application is included is not clear. The SGH-G810 does support geotagging for photographs, so each picture will have its location coordinates saved in the metadata for future reference.

ImageImage

The display is a 2.6" 240 x 320 pixel display, very similar to the original N95. Also, as with the N95, the G810 lacks a touchscreen.

Because the Samsung G810 runs the Symbian S60 operating system, you can add more applications to it at a later date. There is quite a wealth of Symbian applications on the market, and this is one of a very small number of Symbian handsets from the Samsung stable.

Bundled software on the SGH-G810 includes support for Google Search, Maps and Google Mail, plus a multimedia player.

This is a 3G device with HSDPA support, as well as GPRS and EDGE data. Again, Samsung's specifications are a little vague, but it does appear to be a tri-band GSM phone with UMTS 2100 MHz only. The SGH-G810 has USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 and supports microSD memory cards. There is also a TV output and standard 3.5mm audio jack socket.

This looks like an interesting handset, but as is often the case with Samsung, the launch has been marred with a lack of clear information. We can't tell you exactly how the SGH-G810 compares with the N95 and N96 because of this, so if features such as mapping and video capture are important to you, then you should check carefully before purchase.

QUICK FEATURES:
* 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and 3x optical zoom
* Symbian OS with S60 user interface
* 2.6" 256K-color TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution
* Wi-Fi
* Built-in GPS receiver
* 3G capabilities with HSDPA support
* Xenon flash
* 330MHz TI OMAP processor
* 130MB of internal memory plus a microSD card slot
* 3.5 mm stereo audio jack
* Bluetooth and USB v2.0
* TV-out functionality
* Great metallic design
